Doom is a classic PC conversion that has been ported to many consoles besides SNES, including PSX, Dreamcast, Jaguar and tons more. There must be very few people who have not heard of it by now, it is a game that has inspired the creation of a genre, the corridor shooter. In my opinion, this is the original and best. You take the role of a hardnut space marine, who is sent out into a variety of alien terrain alone, and armed to the teeth with several big guns to protect himself. These include the standard issue handgun, a more destructive chaingun, a rocket launcher, a plasma gun and the ultima weapon - the BFG 9000 which can destroy rooms full of aliens with a single shot. Needless to say, all of these weapons leave your enemies in a state that is most certainly not for the faint-hearted. This game was criticised upon launch for being OTT, in that it portrays mindless violence and gore as fun to what is an inevitable audience of children. Well, this certainly isn't for kids, but the graphics are very tame by today's standards so it won't keep that many kids awake at night :-) Overall, this game is a definate classic and it is not to be missed. - MD Pontiac
