title

Asterix was a platform game developed by Infogrames and was intended for release in late 1993 by Electro Brain. It was based on the popular French cartoon.

This game was released in Europe, but had no US release. I played the game for a few minutes, and it seems like a decent platform/action game with good graphics. But at the time, there were lots of platform games being released, and likely this one was lost in the shuffle. In the October 1993 issue of Nintendo Power, they stated it was intended for a Fall 1993 release.

I believe the reason that Asterix was unreleased on the SNES was as follows. There was also an Asterix game on the NES, as well as a few Smurfs titles. Both of these cartoon characters are much more popular in Europe, and the games never made it over to the US. There are still Asterix games coming out for GBA, which aren't being released in the US. Once again, probably due to popularity and so forth.
